Myrtle Beach

Charlottesville Virginia Wedding Photographer

[part of the Tuesday for Travel blog series – reviews, recommendations, and stories based on our travels and excursions]

I am rarely happier than when the breeze smells of salt and sand is between my toes.  There’s just something about the ocean that refreshes my soul.  Our family makes a point to spend 1-2 weeks at the beach each year and feels so very blessed to do so.

Our second beach trip this year was to Myrtle Beach and we were thankful to have my parents along for the ride.  We decided to camp at the beach this year and chose Pirateland Campground due to it’s spacious sites (compared to other ocean front campsites) and its amazing pool area.  Just look at the splash area!  Kid heaven!  We spent a few afternoons at the pool enjoying the splash area, lazy river, and pools.

We made a complete pirate theme of the vacation and saw the Pirates Voyage dinner theater.  The boys weren’t so happy on the way in! 🙂

During the preshow, we sat in the balcony area and had drinks and snacks.  Carter, mom, and dad decided to head downstairs to check out the gift shop.  While they were downstairs, the performers called for two volunteers on stage.  The actor chose and pointed to a child in Carter’s general direction, and in classic Carter fashion he high tailed it onto the stage.  We felt a little bit bad for whoever’s spot he accidentally took, but he was just so excited to perform!  We have quite a little actor on our hands! 🙂  He was pretty pleased with himself and reenacted the performance several times afterward!

During the show both boys were glued to the performance.  With songs and acrobatics galore, kids are guaranteed to enjoy!  Our picky eater had a little trouble finding enough to eat, but we knew this would be a problem going in since everyone receives the same meal at this show (soup, bread, chicken, pulled pork, corn, & potato).  The best part of this meal is the apple pie pastry dessert.  It is delicious!

After the show the boys were decked out pirate style thanks to their grandparents! 🙂  Much happier on the way out than they were on the way in! 😉

On our final day, we woke up in time to see the sunrise and headed out on the long trek home.  We had a wonderful trip!
